July and August are the hottest months of the year in Barcelona, when temperatures can reach as high as 31°C (88°F). It is also the peak of the tourist season but many smaller shops close during the period, when their owners go on vacation. However, shops and restaurants in the central districts and tourist areas tend to remain open. April-June and September-October are good times to visit Barcelona when temperatures are more pleasant, without the hordes of tourists and hotels offering cheaper rates.
