Madeira, Portugal - The Island of Madeira

Madeira is part of the Madeira Archipelago, situated about 500 km (310 miles) from the northwestern coast of Africa and 1,000 km (620 miles) from Portugal. The island is a year-round holiday destination and especially popular with tourists from Western Europe. Funchal is the capital and largest city on Madeira as well as home to many tourist resorts - the main destination for most holidaymakers. For visitors, the island of offers scenic beaches, water sports, natural scenery, picturesque villages, hiking trails and golf.
