Faro is Portugal's southernmost city on the Iberian Peninsula and the capital of the Algarve region. With a population of just around 65,000, Faro has a more town-like atmosphere rather than a city. A major attraction here is Cidade Velha (Old City), a well-preserved section of Faro with its narrow cobblestone streets, and Portuguese and Moorish influenced architecture. Faro's Mediterranean climate makes it a popular year-round destination, especially with sun seekers from northern Europe and the U.K.
