Faro may be the capital of Portugal's Algarve region but more of a town with a population of just around 50,000. For visitors, many of the interesting sites as well as the marina, restaurants, shops and hotels are concentrated within a 300 metre (330 yards) radius. Faro is a fairly compact city and therefore walking is highly recommended - just have comfortable walking shoes and a good guide map. Your walk should take you pass interesting Portuguese architecture dating from the 16th to 19th centuries.
