The city's public transport company Carris operates three funicular and one street elevator in some of the hilliest parts of Lisbon. The funiculars have been in service since the late 19th century and include the:
  • Lavra on the Largo da Anunciada - Rua Camara Pestana route,
  • Gloria on the Praca dos Restauradores - Bairro Alto route, and
  • Bica Funiculars on the Rua de Sao Paulo - Largo de Calhariz route.
The Santa Justa Elevator has been in operation since 1902. The lower level of the elevator is located between Rua do Ouro and Rua de Santa Justa, and takes passengers to Largo do Carmo.
